When seeing the B1A4 members, the reporters’ first responses were compliments filled with “so good-looking”. However, this is not the only factor to their explosive popularity. B1A4, who showed their fresh charms last year through ‘O.K’ and ‘Beautiful Target’, are showing a strong energy this time through their title song, ‘Baby I’m Sorry’, after releasing their first official full length album, ‘IGNITION’.
B1A4, who are planning to finish their first official album’s promotions in Korea this week, showed their proud hearts by saying, “There were a lot of prejudiced thoughts about us. Since we often heard the phrase ‘visual group’, because of our fresh image during our 1st and 2nd album, we decided that we needed to show something else this time. So we personally participated in the composing and producing and we feel very satisfied because we feel that we expressed B1A4’s own colors well.”
B1A4, who set their first foot out last year on April 23rd and reached their first year since debuting, firmly set their own spot in the music industry that is being called the ‘Spring and Autumn Period’ of idols. And they have shown surprising results of building a fandom that exceeds 80,000 people in less than a year since their debut.
To this the members revealed what they thought was the reason to their popularity, “We try not to think about it and just show our true selves.” Although it was short, it was an answer that one could not help but agree with. When B1A4 is offstage from when they dominate the public with their fantastic stage manner, they are simply cute boys that like to play around. This is also to their fans as well. When you see their greetings that come out from heartfelt cheerfulness or their true smiles, you can’t help but understand why so many girls love them
“Rather than think about how we have to stand out from other groups, we think more about how we need to show an improved side. That’s why we feel good when we hear, ‘B1A4 has their own style’. Although the initial reactions to our album were clearly divided, they say that they like it the more they listen to it. Since we wanted to show a more matured side from the start, we devoted ourselves in preparing for it and we were already a bit sensitive about the public’s comments, but we were happy because compliments were pouring out.”
B1A4 is really truthful. When I asked what kind of event they want to get headlined on a newspaper for this year, they endlessly exploded with titles of events that they would get happy from by just thinking such as, ‘1st Place on a Music Broadcast’, ‘Solo Concert Sold Out in 1 Minute’, ‘Sweep Away All the Bonsang Awards During End-of-the-Year Awards’, ‘B1A4 are the Romances of All Women’, and ‘The Music Industry Needs to Watch Out for B1A4’.
They are boys with quite a lot of greed. Is that why? The reporter felt slightly playful and made suggestions about a promise, “If all the events that B1A4 hopes for become reality, how will you show your thankfulness to your fans?” As soon as I asked them, a debate started among the members about what kind of event would last in their memories. In the end, each of the members talked about their own personal wish and they showed their infinite love for fans by agreeing for every wish that comes true for each person, there will be an event.

▶ [B1A4’s Real Episode] - “The Day Jinyoungie Fell Down”
Jinyoung- “While doing dry rehearsals for a music broadcast, there was a part where I walk out for my part. However, when I put out a foot to go forward, it interlocked with a metallic ring accessory on my shoe and I fell down in that position and rolled around once. I should have placed my hand down when I fell, but thinking that I could just leave it alone, I didn’t go into position and just fell like that. I needed to sing, but the situation where all the singers and staff members were looking at me was honestly embarrassing. If it was before, I would have immediately gotten up and continued singing, but I remember thinking it over a bit because I was so embarrassed. And because there was a recording of that scene, we posted it on the internet for laughs, but our fans sincerely worried about it so we took it off the site, but it was still on the internet. That stage is the most memorable for this promotion period. (Laughter)”

☆This is the second time in Thailand. How you do feel?
Jinyoung: First of all, I’m very glad to be here again. Even though it was a short time since the last visit, we missed Thai fans a lot. This time, we heard about the flood all over the country so we feel very sorry for Thai people. We want you to hold on and hope for the best. We, B1A4, will lend everyone the strength.

☆Shinwoo has a very good figure. How do you take care of yourself?
CNU: Its not that much of a big deal. I don’t have any secrets.
Baro: He doesn’t have secrets. His figure has always been nice. But, Shinwoo always do push-ups every time before we go up the stage.
☆What is B1A4’s goal?
Jinyoung: Our goal is to be the group that loved by many, a lovable group.
Sandeul: I want every one to listen to us singing. I also want every one to be happy listening to our music.
☆How about your hobbies?
CNU: If I have a free time, I will look up the videos of my favorite artists. When I realize the things that I should improve, I’ll practice more of those.
Sandeul: I love to read comic books so, I’ll always pick up comics to read whenever I have free time. (Laughs)
Jinyoung: I usually compose when I’m free. I’ll listen to music in order to think up new ideas for composing.
Baro: I like watching movies. Recently, when I’m bored, I’ll watch romantic movies.
Gongchan: I really like exercising and I also like skipping rope recently. I believe that I can still get taller so I do that a lot.

1. Please introduce yourself as uniquely as your group name is.
Jinyoung: Hello~ I am gentle guy Jinyoung, leader and in charge of vocals.
Shinwoo: Hello! I am multiplayer CNU, in charge of rap and vocals.
Sandeul: Hello~ I am the refreshing guy, breezy breezy Sandeul, in charge of main vocals.

2. You’ve already released your second mini-album. Recently, many singers choose to release digital singles, but ‘it B1A4’ is an album packed to the brim with 6 songs.
Jinyoung: It means to become the centre of attention, to become a hot topic. With a color and charm that belongs to only B1A4, we hope to receive love from many and spread our music far and wide. The title song in this album is ‘Beautiful Target’. With an addictive hook of L.O.V.E, there is house pop song ‘My Love’. Just like how a young boy falls in love and tries to appease his girlfriend “woo-jjoo-jjoo”, ‘Chu Chu Chu’ uses onomatopoeic words to honestly express feelings. ‘Wonderful Tonight’ is a rock-based electronic song that describes the irony of a wonderful night where even though a couple has separated, the guy trusts that the girl will return. ‘Fooool’ is a song with medium tempo and quick beats, paired with sad lyrics and rap made by Baro.
CNU: Like with the first album, our team leader Jinyoung had his self-composed, written and edited song included. Baro and myself were involved in writing lyrics for our title song, and rap-making for all the other songs. Please listen to the songs.
3. In this album, the members personally composed and wrote songs. Especially since you all are still young, it’s an amazing feat.
Jinyoung: Like in the previous album where I wrote and composed ‘Bling Girl’, I managed to write, compose and song ‘Wonderful Tonight’ this time. g. To see the end result of something I’ve worked on in my spare time over this period makes me really satisfied, and in future I will work harder and have more complete music with better standards to let everyone listen to. Also, CNU and Baro helped a lot in the making of this song. Similarly with the previous album, it’s a song that I did not accomplish alone. The members give me ideas and opinions by my side, and it was only possible with their participation. To the members who even when tired out after practice, if I request for a song guide, they would agree readily, I’m really thankful.
Baro: Like with the previous album, I did the rap-making for all the songs in the album, and the most memorable is the title song ‘Beautiful Target’. stemmed from an idea I had with CNU hyung. The first time I heard this song, it gave me chills. An idea surged up to me, and I ended up participating in writing lyrics as well. It is different from the other songs, there are many twists and elements in the middle. I put a lot of emphasis on writing the lyrics. Especially in my rap part, there are many words at the end such as ‘you, hoo, hood, do’ as the main point. It was made so that it would be easy for the listeners to remember and sing along. Thankfully, there are many people who say that the lyrics are very distinctive and fresh. I’m really glad and satisfied to have received such compliments.
4. There is a lot of talk about title song ‘Beautiful Target’ having a unique and special composition.
CNU: I wrote the lyrics with Baro. It was from the idea of ‘my heart/feelings for the opposite sex I like is zoom zooming through, just like a rocket taking off’. Everyone will understand when they listen to the song, but in the chorus, there is strong pronounciations and distinctive reggae-style rap. Once you hear it, you will sing along to it. I guess that’s the charm of the song (laugh).
Gongchan: If you listen hard enough, there are many interesting sound effects like gunshots, rocket sounds, and the screams of a girl. Many people do not realize it the first time they hear the song, but they will find it interesting after hearing it twice, and that it is addictive.
Sandeul: ‘Beautiful Target’ also has choreography different from the usual. You’ll be able to feel the charms of only B1A4, starting with Jinyoung hyung and Gongchan’s gentle voices, the indivualities of CNU hyung and Baro’s rapping, then my power vocals, forming up a house rhythm. Please give our title song a lot of love.
5. You gave your album much thought, to the point that a 100 page photobook was included. Any episodes that happened during filming?
Sandeul: If you take a look at our album, there are pictures taken with a cat. It is the same cat that appeared in the pictures from our first album. Actually, the cat was not supposed to appear in the photoshoot, but while we were filming, the cat just walked by suddenly and got caught in the shots. If you look at the pictures, you can see that all of us are surprised and amazed, but the cat was just casually walking past in front. But during the shoot for this album, we were a huge bother so it wasn’t very willing to cooperate. Its arrogant personality caused a little trouble for us during the shoot, heuk heuk.
Baro: So as to show everyone a new side to myself, I lifted up my fringe and revealed my forehead. This is the first time I’m revealing my forehead. The first revelation! It was awkward since it was the first time, but since many people said that I looked good, I’m relieved.
6. We cannot not talk about B1A4 without mentioning sports. You all had amazing results at the recent Chuseok broadcast of Idol Sports Championships.
Baro: I played a lot of soccer when I was young, so my lower body is quite solid, and I’m pretty good at running. To some extent, I had confidence but it had been a while since I ran, and there are many people who ran really well. So I did not know how well I’d do. When I came in first at the preliminaries, I gained confidence and my will to win was set ablaze. Even though it was a little of a pity that I came in second during the finals, I am still satisfied and happy that I did that well. If there is another chance that comes by, I want to challenge it again.
7. When you have no schedules, how do you spend your time? Any hobbies you particularly enjoy?
Gongchan: Other than the time we are sleeping and have schedules, we spend it all in the practice room. In the practice room, we do group and individual practices. We also talk amongst ourselves, and give each other comments on singing and rap. We also take care of our stamina with simple exercises like skipping rope and sit-ups. Since we spend most of our time at the practice room, the time we’re at the practice room seems to be most comfortable.
Jinyoung: That’s right. It seems that the practice room has become the place we’re most comfortable it. In my case, I also write my own songs in the practice room, and the members use a mike to record the songs. To us, the practice room is our playground.
8. What songs do you enjoy recently? Is there a song you’d like to introduce to the fans?
Sandeul: I’d like to recommend Kim Dongryul’s ‘Old Song’. It’s a song I listen to after a day of schedule, while lying down on the bed and thinking about my day. I get a warm and comfortable feeling in my heart when I listen to this song. It’ll be nice if other people could feel the same way I do.
Jinyoung: I really like LMFAO’s ‘Party Rock Anthem’. When I listen to it, my body will move up and down and I become really excited. It’s an addictive song that is able to relieve me of all my stress.
9. To end it off, please tell us about your future plans.
CNU: So we’ve started with our promotions for our second mini album, and we’ll be able to meet many people through TV, radio, public broadcasts and fansigns. With more mature sides than in the first album, and the different sides that we’ve yet to reveal, we’ll show it all to you, so please always watch over and cheer us on. Jinyoung: As with the title, it is a beautiful target, a person of the opposite sex that you like. The context of the song is that because of this person, I can’t seem to breathe, and I seem to melt - and for he or she to accept the love. You will understand when you take a look at the lyrics, it is strong, distinctive and very memorable. I think the public will like it more as they sing along the words with interesting nuances, such as ‘zoom zoom, boom boom, soom soom (breathe), like it like it, gotta shoot’. Also, this song was from an idea suggested by CNU and Baro - “My heart for the opposite sex I like is zoom zooming through, just like a rocket taking off”, hence we feel even more attached to it.
Q. The album title is unique. What is the meaning of ‘it B1A4’?

Q. Tell us about an episode that happened during the filming of ‘Beautiful Target”s music video.
Baro: As you can see from the music video, there is a scene where CNU comes out wearing a red jumper. That outfit had buttons of every shape and size attached on, and it was really heavy. We took turns to put it on, and it was about 3kg. CNU hyung wore that outfit and filmed, but whenever he made a gesture, a button would fall off. After CNU hyung was done with his filming and we looked at the floor, it was filled with buttons, and it was really funny.
Gongchan: In the music video, Sandeul hyung appears as a paramedic who arrives by ambulance. Sandeul hyung had to drive the ambulance himself, but since he didn’t have a driving license, he did not know what to do. But we found that the ambulance is not a real car, but it was a toy car for children where he just had to step on the pedal and it’ll move. Even though Sandeul hyung looks like he is really good at driving, but in reality, his two feet were really busy below.
Q. Please tell us about your future plans.

1: I’ve always wanted to be in this industry ever since I was young. I like to sing in front of people, I was the vice-chairman in the student council, I had a personality that was suited in the school council. During school I managed to hone on my acting skills, I also partook in a film for the school. During that period, my picture was uploaded to the site, and I was foun by the company, so I got ino B1A4.
2. When we did a ‘₩10,000 Happiness’. Even though I spent ₩10,000 on socks for the members, there were the others who bought other stuff like pajamas, cakes, alarm clocks…… there were many different kinds of presents.
3. During our first ever fansigning. There were not only our Korean fans, but fans from Japan, THailand, Taiwang, Poland etc. overseas fans who came to see us, we were really touched.
4. I have a very forward personality. Even when we have a bad situation, as long as I think of ‘everything will get better’, it really does get better. Also focusing. When I am immersed (focused) in something, I wouldn’t be able to hear anything that calls me. My charm pint is, I am a great guy that likes to cook. Someday, I will make a nice Aglio Olio so please come over and play~.

1: A kid that always looked forward to activities. I got into the school council within 1 week after returning to school, got into the school fest council, I also got into the comedy circle during High school. I also had a lot of interest in music, I managed to see my dream after trying singing and rapping.
2: During DJ DOC’s concert. It was fun yet saddening. During the concert there was a part where the audiences could show their skills, Jinyoung, Shinwoo and I went up. Even though Jinyoung and Shinwoo got the attention, I didn’t do anything. But we were happy with hyungs’ performance.
3. During our debut stage’s rehearsal, Gongchan fell on his butt. When we saw that, we all got nervous. But during the real thing, everyone managed to do well and we had to pretend like we weren’t nervous. We really felt thankful to the audiences that supported us.
4. I heard from the members that I’m the group’s mood maker. In any way, I like to be interesting and to make people laugh. Also, I think that my rapping voice which is different from how I look is really charming.
5. I hope to do a solo B1A4 concert. When you watch variety shows we can’t show our new statures, and to have a open concert with all our fans!! I think it’ll be fun.

1: I really like singing. During junior high it was when I came in first during a competition of ‘I Am A Singer’ with friends who were good at singing too. I’d wanted to get better and stronger, so I joined a national competition. Then, after learning a lot from the singing fest, I felt really happy when I stood on the stage for the first time, I then saw my dream to be a singer forming.
2.When I first got into the dorm. The members had planned to surprise me. I lived in Busan, so I had to take the train up city, but I was welcomed by Jinyoung whom had already arrived. I was really shocked when hyung came from behind the front door. No matter how many times I’ll still fall for the pranks that the members love to make.
3: On my debut day. It was my first time on a music program, and there were a lot of our fans in the audience, there were also cardboards which had our names written on it and the voices supported us…… I was really moved. I will never forget about our first stage.
4. The people around me says that I’m ‘bubbly and cute’. Jinyoung and Shinwoo too, they said that I was cute and pinched my cheeks. My charm point is, I have the longest legs within all members, and my skin is the nicest.
5. To work hard with B1A4 together in our singing activities, and to try a musical some day.

1: My whole family likes singing, so I’ve always wanted to be a singer ever since I was young. My mother is now active as a trot singer, and my sister is also doing Pansori. I’m also a vocal in a band, so I’m getting lots of experience too. Due to the song festivals which I joined with my friends, I was motivated to join B1A4.
2: I tend to oversleep. If I have to arrive at the practice room at 10, I would wake up at 9.50 (laughs)! I would wake the members up in a hurry, dash off to practice without washing up. Since we can’t even be late for a minute, we ran. Even thinking of it makes it fun.
3: When there is public airing or anything, my parents would come. After my debut, my parents came to my first live stage, so I was really nervous……. I thought ‘that was great’ after it ended, and I was really moved after getting praised.
4: I’m more of the meticulous type. The members call me ‘Mother’ (laughs). My charm is my body proportion and my smile as to what people has sad.
5. I would like to try a solo concert as B1A4. Like in my studying period, I would want to show a full band and session with a strong sexiness and rock stage. We would do our best to let everyone know of B1A4. and I want to be an amazing person that will not forget about the hardships we’ve went through.

1: Having been in the drama club since junior high school, I’ve been on the stage for countless times. During my first year in high school, I crossdressed and danced to Ivy, getting second in place. My love for the stage slowly grew, when I was in junior high year 3 I participated in Cyworld’s ‘Ulzzang Challenge Corner’ when my friend had uploaded my picture. Afterwhich, I got into the audition and became a member.
2: I was the main lead in the short film my friend filmed. At the last day, we went to Myeong-dong to film at the wild, and because the staff had to carry a lot of things, the hyungs came to help. I was really grateful, so I teared up due to joy.
3: When I went to school, my friends would be there to give me support. My teacher would also encourage me.
4: People are saying ‘You seem cool and unfriendly at the first sight, but when we really socialize you seem to have a lot of aegyo.’. People has said that I seemed to be laughing and angry often, but I just like to play tricks and have a bubbly personality. Please don’t get mistaken (laughs).
